Some people have a tendency to be flashy with their accessories, but the Swiss horology brand “Parmigiani Fleurier” is going the modest route, on the surface. For their 20thanniversary they’ve opted to release a stainless-steel timepiece with a solid gold movement inside. Introducing the new “Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpa Hebdomadaire”.

Michael Parmigiani, the founder of this watch brand, has stated: “A gold movement inside a steel case is like a precious item, jealously guarded in a safe. The impenetrable inner riches of a person are a well-hidden treasure. A rare beauty only found by those who know where to look.” This statement reveals the thought process behind such discreetness. As well as it celebrates the craftsman’s devotion to those seldom mentioned finishing touches.

The 44mm rectangular “tonneau” shaped case designed by Michael Parmigiani, is made of polished stainless-steel with thick lugs and an overall unique look, reminiscent of a baroque era. Its transparent caseback is covered by a sapphire crystal, which allows to see the inner workings of this mechanical movement. And it’s quite worth taking a look at all the effort and detail put in its decoration. The bridges are rounded with internal angles and have been engraved with a dragon wing pattern, composing a series of fastidious strokes.

The brownish Havana colored dial has a sunray wave-pattern guilloché exterior, an opaline center and azur counter finish. Time is told via Arabic numerals and 18k yellow gold appliqués hour index markers. The center of the dial has a white minute index marker ring. Both the hour and minute markers are pointed out by 18k yellow gold delta-shaped hands with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.

A power reserve indicator is located under the 12 o’clock position. And an offset sub-seconds dial is positioned over the 6 o’clock location, which also includes a white aperture date window in its midst. These complications and accents are positioned in accordance with Parmigiani Fleurier’s patented display system.

Parmigiani Fleurier 44mm Kalpa XL Hebdomadaire
This “Parmigiani Fleurier 44mm Kalpa XL Hebdomadaire” (Ref#: PFC101-0001600-HA1242) is powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement, caliber PF110, with 28 jewels, 227 components and 21,600 vph. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up 192 hours (8 days) and water-resistance can reach up to 30m (98 feet). Mounted to the watch is a brownish Havana Hermès alligator strap with a stainless-steel folding clasp buckle.
